Thanks Ana. I'm addicted to artist residencies after being offered my first one after graduating from my MA. They are a great way to experience a place. Many artist residencies are open to writers too, which a lot of people don't know. I might do a post about them.
... Castlerigg..!! That place was (and I suppose still is) one of the formative places of my life! I can't count the number of times I made my mum and dad stop there so I could be 'in the stones'. Again, strange how we overlap on things! I'm playing with resurrecting and old idea about personal items, something that has started to resonate even more loudly in my head being here in Australia at the moment... An idea that connects back to Castlerigg and Wordsworth and the Lakes..
Anyway. I could offer my ten pennyworth on publishing and publishers but it's probably best saved for sharing over a beer! 😉
Ha. Autocorrect changed 'personal totems' (which is what I meant to say) into 'personal items'... Which isn't totally wrong (!), but the idea is about places, names, memories and roots.
Really looking forward to your scribbling on the Atacama! It is still on my wish list and I hope to get there one day. Also love the stone circle in the Lake District. Thank you, lovely newsletter.
How interesting! I would like to know about artists residencies. I really enjoyed the format of this newsletter :)

Love this newsletter! Excited about the prospect of a book!
Thanks Bentley!

Hi Robert?
We do!
It was my first time at Castlerigg, I can't believe how special this place is.
I missed it until now as I've mostly done just hiking and climbing in the Lakes.
Are you in Australia now? Time away always makes one come back with new ideas and fresh eyes I think. Beer sounds good! Next time I'm in London maybe?
Nick

Thanks so much Cecile. I landed in the Atacama many years ago for an aeroplane refuel and have always wanted to see more of it. Can’t wait
Great stuff, Nicholas! We visited Argentine Patagonia many moons ago, Chatwin in hand. Best of luck with it all
The only way to do it! Thanks
You continue to inspire me, Nick.
It's worth looking at Lucy Taylor's stuff about the Welsh settlement in Patagonia - just google and also Pamela Petro's 'Travels in an Old Tongue'
