thanks for this Nick, of course, I would love to learn even more about it but no stress to make a PDF, as you said, google is our friend. I'm curious to know what kind of people you met and how this experience enriched your projects and creativity. How is it on the family to be two weeks away? Un saludo desde Madrid!
Oh, wow! I had no clue you could apply for a artist residence as an photographer. Thanks for sharing Nicholas! I just subscribed to your newsletter. Looking forward to keep reading you.
Hi Alex, thanks. Yes most artist residencies accept applications from photographers. If you're thinking of applying I would lean towards the art side with your portfolio. Position yourself as an artist working with photography. Rather than a reportage photographer. Of course this depends on the specific residency you are applying to., But its a good rule of thumb. Nick
Very informative and inspiring. I sometimes stay for a week alone on our sailing boat. Just staying ashore, swaying with the wind and hearing the rigging tinkle. I fancy myself being an artist in residence then😁 But you can really connect with your surroundings and hear yourself think that way, love that. Maybe I’ll try a real residence one day

You nailed it.
Your boat sounds wonderful!
Im currently planning to to a 'residency' of my own in a different place every year with a couple of photographer friends who I am in a collective with. This could be hiring a property somewhere or going to an actual residency.
Cool, with a collective! I sometimes go on a road trip together with a photographer friend of mine: she provides the images, I bring the words. She is currently working on a project of extraordinary churches in the world and we are looking into making it into a virtual portfolio with some short stories. Nice to explore the world like that! Hopefully we will publish some here 🤞enjoy the weekend
Very interesting Nicholas. I think residencies are a great way to develop an artistic practice. As a writer I’m always looking out for opportunities. The idea you have of putting together some guidance for applications is definitely worthwhile.

Seriously! I had no idea those places and those possibilities existed. Amazing. Thank you for sharing, I think I am going to check a few!
It’s a great rabbit hole to fall into!
You have inspired a whole new thought process
Cool. Just need to find the right one!
Brilliant, thanks for sharing, and you had read my mind, and yes please to pdf ❤️
Inspiring!
Great! Thanks.
